How to make Great Buddha of Nara

(1) Twist a branch and a rope around a wooden support and make the prototype of rough Great Buddha.
(2) Put the ground and clay on a rough prototype and prepare a form. This is called medium mold.
(3) Make an outer die from clay, leaving a crevice in the medium mold outside in mica or paper.
(4) Remove an outer die and delete a medium mold.
(5) Set an outer die again and pour in copper.
(6) Plate with gold using mercury amalgam.

「奈良の大仏」について

　東大寺盧舎那仏像（とうだいじるしゃなぶつぞう）は、一般に「奈良の大仏」として知られる仏像（大仏）で、東大寺大仏殿（金堂）の本尊である。聖武天皇の発願で天平17年（745年）に制作が開始され、天平勝宝4年（752年）に開眼供養会（かいげんくようえ、魂入れの儀式）が行われた。「銅造盧舎那仏坐像」の名で彫刻部門の国宝に指定されている。
